Cardiomyopathy is a major cause of heart failure and life-threatening rhythm abnormalities, but in the majority of cardiomyopathy cases, the root cause cannot be identified. That’s where Penn Medicine’s Dr. Kenneth Margulies, along with counterparts at Mayo Clinic, comes in. They are using electrical guidance techniques to obtain better, more targeted heart biopsies. Combined with extensive molecular analyses, genetic testing and imaging, we hope to better understand the cause, severity, and recoverability of each patient’s cardiomyopathy. Ultimately, the goal is to provide a basis for targeted therapeutics and counseling.
