Did you know that 1-in-8 of Central-Eastern Jews are carriers of some genetic mutations? Did you know if you even have one grandparent who came from that area, you too might be a carrier? What does it mean to be a carrier?
An incredible evening supporting you in building healthy families by providing you with information about Jewish genetic diseases and how to plan for a family accordingly. Have all your questions answered in an intimate, safe and open environment!
Hosted by: Julie Kristof
Julie is a Montrealer and was tested for Tay Sachs when she was in high school. She thought she was safe. She and her husband are both carriers of another hereditary disease, also specific to the Jewish community, which was not tested. Their daughter Miriam was born with Familial Dysautonomia, a fatal disorder that has changed all their lives. Julie has become a fierce advocate to genetic testing, working to raise awareness of and create access to testing. Julie wishes she had been tested and had known she was a carrier.
