After the week she’s had, the Peloton wife needed a girls’ night out — and thanks to Ryan Reynolds, she got one.
In Peloton’s infamously ridiculed TV ad, actress Monica Ruiz — who appeared on television shows like “About a Boy” and “The Exes” — plays the already-thin-and-fit wife whose clueless husband bought her the $2,245 exercise bike that she dutifully rode day-after-day.
The ad was panned as sexist for perpetuating unhealthy body image messages and pushing gender and marriage stereotypes.
But this weekend, Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin dropped a hilarious ad of its own, giving the “Peloton wife” the opportunity to blow off some steam, TMZ reported.
The 42-second ad opens with Ruiz sitting in a bar, staring blankly into the camera, barely blinking, while her two female friends look on with concern.
Finally, she mutters, “This gin is really smooth.”
Relieved their friend’s soul hasn’t been sucked out of her, one cheerily says, “We can get you another one if you like.”
“You’re safe here” the other adds.
The wife, free for the moment of her burdensome bike and seemingly well-meaning-but-overbearing husband, says, “To new beginnings.”
Cue clinking of martini glasses in a celebratory cheers moment — before she gulps down the entire cocktail.
“This is gonna be a fun night,” the one friend says sarcastically, as she slides her barely-sipped cocktail to her downtrodden friend.
As the camera zooms in on the bottle of Aviation Gin, one of the friends is heard saying, “You look great, by the way.”
