Varun Ratra, from the newsletter Eye Between Bulls & Bears, has won the latest Shares Race after his portfolio, which was heavily laden with gold stocks, fired up in response to higher prices for the yellow metal as sharemarkets wobbled on investor fears global economic growth was stalling.
His portfolio added a further $10,000 in the final week of the six-week contest to finish at $117, 403 – a big margin over second placegetter Hina Chowdhary, of Kalkine, with $102,893.
The best of Ratra’s gold stocks – Black Cat Syndicate – grew his original $10,000 investment to $15,694. It was the second-best performing stock tip of all.
Dreamscape Networks, held by Chowdhary, was the best performer, with her original $10,000 in the provider of domain names, hosting and online services, growing to $16,061.
